That's a Kippah

When I started working at B'nai Shalom Day School, I was very limited in my Jewish education.  But one thing I knew for sure.  The head covering that men wear is called a yarlmuke.  Okay, so that's at least one thing I know.

But at one point, I kept hearing people talk about a kippah.  Later I found out that they called a male head covering a kippah.  I felt like Homer Simpson saying, "doh" to myself.

At first I was extremely frustrated.  The one thing I know for sure and it's something I don't know after all.

Later I learned that kippah is the Hebrew word and yarlmuke the Yiddish word for male head covering.

I also saw learning kippah as learning something new which added to my life.  So that was a gift or a blessing.
